While it is true that skincare varies with time and that each skin has its own needs, there are a series of measures you can take in order to slow down the effects of time on your skin.
1. Stay well hydrated.
At any age, skincare begins from the inside out. It doesn’t matter if you use the best creams on the market, if you don’t drink enough water, your skin won’t look healthy enough. Under normal conditions, it is recommended to drink 8 glasses of water a day. However, that amount could be higher if you exercise a lot or if you’re under extreme weather conditions.
2. Avoid sun exposure.
You don’t need to go to the beach and lay on the sand in order for your skin to receive the effects of the sun. When you run errands, while driving, when you walk your dog or when you’re home checking your Instagram or Facebook, you’re getting sunrays. For this reason, it is very important to use sunscreen, even if you’re not going out.
If you’re going to the beach, additionally to sunscreen, you should wear a hat that covers your entire face. Also, try to stay in the shade. Keep in mind that the best time to engage in outdoor activities is between 6 and 10 am and after 4 pm.
By protecting your skin from the sun, not only will you avoid premature aging but you’ll also lower your chances to develop skin spots, allergies, rosacea, autoimmune diseases and skin cancer.
3. Use skin creams that best suit you.
Always apply cream to your body, after showering, as well as to your face before going to bed and in the morning. Using organic creams that contain vitamin E, vitamin C, Olive Oil and Aloe Vera can be beneficial since they don’t have potentially harmful ingredients that sometimes are used to produce massively commercialized skin creams. Try AE's Vitamin C Anti-Aging Anti-Wrinkle Face Cream, a daily-use face cream that is rich in Hyaluronic Acid, which increases elasticity and eases dryness.
4. Remove your makeup before going to bed.
Leaving your makeup on is something you probably did in your early twenties, but it should never happen after 25. It doesn’t matter how tired you feel, take off your makeup, always. Your skin will thank you when you’re 40 and people think you’re 30. I recommend using multi-tasking products like AE's H2O Beauty, it's a makeup remover, deep cleanser and facial toner that simplifies your skincare routines. And wake up guilty-free
5. Exfoliate your skin.
Every two weeks, apply a natural exfoliant to your body and face. That way you’ll get rid of dead cells, you’ll stimulate microcirculation and your skin will look cleaner, healthier and radiant.
